It’s still Oct. — so it is still National Adopt-A-Dog Month!

I already posted on this but for those who did not read it or know it is such a month….. here it is again…  October is Adopt-A-Dog Month and what better place than at the shelter.

Shelters have the ‘perfect dog’ as long as you have firmly made the commitment, that a dog in your life is what is missing.

Puppies, pure breeds, older pups, quiet ones, small, large, all sorts of colors — no pink, or purple or lime green  ….but you get the hint, right?

If you are willing to work at finding the right pup for you,  the shelter works hard to match you up  with what your situation is.

I get lots of shares regarding pups…and want to share with you  two stories, two

different kinds of pups, but both needing one common thing, a  home.

chihuahuas

cute and small but with spunk!

In Santa Barbara, California, more than 100 Chihuahuas are waiting to find new homes, after being turned in to the city’s three shelters.  It’s not just a Adopt A a Dog week there, it is going to be a Adopt-a-Chihuahua Week.  Each one adopted will even go home with it’s own pink carrying case, trimmed with fake black fur. Hmmm, what if the pup is a boy???  — Just wondering.

Jan Glick, the animal services director said, many are being turned in both as strays and due to home foreclosures.

Chihuahuas were popular due to Paris Hilton who had one previously, and also due to Reese Witherspoon’s Legally Blonde movies.  Even now there is a new movie out that stars a Chihuahua — Beverly Hills Chihuahua.

Another type of dog that is in need of homes are grey hounds.  They are on the opposite end of size, but are known to be gentle companions.  They will not ever be your ‘purse pup’ but certainly cuddle by you on the couch.

couch potato, bed hog —-simply irresistible and gentle, the greyhound

News is that since the recent closing of two greyhound race track, older brood females are needing to find new homes.  They are older, but more gentle than ones coming off the track from recent retirement.  These dogs are more at ease and have less separation anxiety than younger greyhounds.  These older females are just very happy to find new homes rather be left in a crate after their racing  days were over.

and if you get a corgi — you can train in agility!

have a perfect couch potato too!

just know, if there is a pup you want to adopt, the shelter is always brimming with pups, and even if you do not seek a local shelter, there are many pups needing new homes.
