Happy 4th of July to all my pup pals! I will be at an agility trial…having a big bang in the ring….hehehe.. but I will return home about, 6 PM or so!
have a happy 4th of july, but remember to be safe, and think safe for us pups!
Fourth of July comes but once a year, but it can be such a day of loud noise and lights….and to some pups….a day they wish never existed. Here is one sad story, but not an uncommon occurrence.
Returning home from a holiday celebration, Sharon Moore and her family discovered feces on their living room floor.
The sliding glass door to their backyard was open, and a hole had been dug under their fence.
The Moores were gone for only four hours, but D.O.G., their 2-year-old, aptly-named white German Shepherd, was gone. Left on her own to face the tumult of fireworks and loud celebrations, she escaped, apparently to seek the familiar—her family—even if she had no idea where to look.
“From what we can tell, when D.O.G. heard the fireworks she freaked out and pooped on the floor inside—for the first time ever—then she opened the sliding glass door with her paw, and dug a hole outside our fence…. She went searching for us,” said Moore, of Maitland, Fla.
The Moores’ search for D.O.G. ended when she was found dead alongside a road where she was often walked.
Special precautions and hints how to make July 4th weekend not stressful for your pup.
- leave the dog at home where he is more comfortable if you are to see fireworks in the open …sparklers can even cause your pup unneeded stress
- use a crate if necessary and give him a fave bone or toy for crate activity
- have a tv or radio on and close the curtains to muffle some of the sound or lights
- bond or have a good exercise work out with your dog before going out or before some of the loud fireworks go off and make sure he has gone out for bathroom business
- always remember to have this tags on or collar with a phone number, just in case he finds a way and escapes out of the house
- do not leave the in the yard alone or tied with leash…they might dig out of the yard or jump over the fence and with all the jumping activity, become tangled with their restraint

Hi and A very Happy and safe 4th of July to you and your pack.
Great picture, you are so sweet. Have fun at the agility trial, thanks for the tips for 4th of July, luckily loud noises don’t bother me, but I hope it works for the pups that are nervous and scared of the fireworks. Hugs, Ravie and Mom
Oops, forgot the most important thing, have a safe and Happy 4th of July:)
Thanks Kaley for the reminder on firework safety. Mom’s very thankful that they don’t bother me too much, unless they’re very, very close to home. She never leaves me alone on the 4th of July either!
I hope you did well today on your trial… I can’t wait to hear all about it!
Hugs, Cody & Mom Paulette
Thanks Kaley & Mum for the reminders & suggestions to have a safe 4th of July. We did leave Casey in the house while we were gone to the fireworks. But neighborhood people like to set off firecrackers any time of the day during the holiday weekend. Casey & I were on a walk going around the block & a neighbor kid came out of his house & lit a firecracker on his porch just has we were going by! I jumped-Casey jumped & then he barked @ the firecracker & wanted to go chase it down. I could not leave Casey in the house all weekend to avoid the firecracker sounds. I do leave a radio on to help muffle the sounds. Slowly Casey & I are learning how to handle his stress over loud noises by trying to keep calm.
