Dear Kaley,
We need your help really badly. We have a boy Corgi named Walter. He’s 4 years old and we love him very much. Problem is Walter has one very bad habit(?) — I’m not sure there is a very nice word for what Walter does — he farts. Walter farts all the time and his well, gas is very toxic smelling. Yesterday we had our Pastor and his wife over for lunch after church. When Walter let go one of his stinkers near the Pastor’s wife, she go so sick she had to leave the room and never got to eat the rest of my award-winning potato salad. Kaley what should I do? We even found that there’s a kid’s book called Walter the Farting Dog. Kaley, I’m afraid we have the real Walter the farting corgi. Help us Kaley.

Toxic Gas in Boca

Dear Toxic Gas in Boca,

hmm, it must really stink, hehee,  mum  knew a pug dog, that farted and it stunk and the  smell, silently took over all the air space, heheheehe…

Okay, so it it is not laughing matter for humans….. there might be a number of reasons  your Walter is farting so much….

  • could be eating too fast and swallowing in too much air [aerophagia] …… i eat fast, but i do not eat that fast where i  fart!  ….us corgis are known to eat fast, possibly fearing it is our  last meal, or thinking this was our first meal since last week……..????  Try serving smaller meals, maybe more often.IMG_6049

no, did not eat too fast, i just ate it all up!

  • eating foods that cause gas….beans……or other gas producing foods [did you feed Walter the last bit of chili…..and beans?  Mom did that to baby Jake one time, results -- not pretty]
  • are you feeding poor quality dog food?   poor quality dog food can cause all sorts of problems…

good quality food…good kibble and canned pumpkin!  ….no beans tonight!

just because the egg popped in the microwave does not mean it is not quality food….but it was nice it happened cuz i got to eat the mess up!  [sansan note, it was in the hotel, and i heated up a peeled hard boiled egg,  and it exploded!…]

I hope this helps you figure out  why your pup farts so much…………. no more beans in his food tonight!

However, do remember, farting is not a bad things…after all, you humans do it all the time, and it stinks!  However difference is, us pups like the stink and you humans do not!  You humans should just enjoy some of the other good things in life!

Kaley corgi kisses  : ) … i am not the farter in this house!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! (wink, wink, huh dad?)

Hi Kaley-Corgi and SanSan…another helpful thing is plain yogurt! It has acidophilus and it helps with gas. Just a spoonful on each feeding works well. (Downside is it takes a week or so to really work well, so the gas mask still needs to be close at hand.)

Good suggestion. Plain yogurt. I will have to try this with both my Labs since I’m not sure which one it is thats throwing the stink bombs. I had to leave the room yesterday.

yes, good idea is tablespoon of plain yogurt with meal, or goats milk yogurt…however, check out the food you are feeding pup….food without soy, corn and wheat is better in this case…..hehee no tofu for us pups!
good luck, but keep masks handy and door open!

smiles from kaley corgi!!!
