Pit Bulls…San Francisco has made it work

Pit bulls often have  a bad name, but much has been made to change this.  Since 2005, San Francisco has made it mandatory for all pit bulls to be spay or neutered since the mauling death of Nicholas Faibish, a twelve year old. There now is a 25 percent drop in seized pit bulls and 33 percent drop in pits being euthanized according to Rebecca Katz, animal control director at the shelter.

“It’s absolutely made a difference,” said Capt. Vicky Guldbech of San
Francisco’s animal control department. “When I started this job, pit bulls
were feared. We were afraid of them. Now when I see pit bulls in the
field, they have cute wagging tails.”

The dogs are more calmer if spayed or neuter and become more pet quality so they are easily socialized into normal society.

The law is enforced easily and the control officer can check if spayed or neuter, and if not the owner is cited and if not fixed in a certain number of days, the dog will be taken.

Some will question, what is a pit bull?  This breed was formally known as American pit bull terrier.  Experts say this breed is from the Staffordshire bull terrier, from the 19th century England and later mixed with the bulldogs.  This breed is not recognized by the AKC.

It is through generations of breeding for strength and aggression that became what people know as the pit bull fighting dog.  The word pit came from the fighting pit the dogs would fight in.

Mum personally, and i, have never met an unfriendly one.  They are big and strong, but they were all nice.  One lives right next door to me and is very sweet.   He does not even bark much, but he is right behind the fence.  When he is walked by his human, i used to run up and bark and he would just stand and did not do a thing.  Now i know him and i do not bark at him much.

This is me and  Juju, the pit bull pup from next door.  I am fine with him being in front of my  house!!!!!!!!!

“Every pit bull is born dangerous, but certainly not every pit bull is
born vicious,” said Colleen Lynn, director of a Texas nonprofit called
Dogs Bite, which lobbies for legislation to control aggressive dogs. “If
the pit bulls choose to bite, chances are something very bad is going to
happen. But not all pit bulls choose to do that.”

An attack from pit bull can be deadly,for this breed will clamp down, shakes it victim and not let go.

There are many groups that work with pit bulls to have them socialized and adopted into family and home situations. One has to really be a more responsible dog owner if one chooses such a breed.  It is good to know, pit bulls are being worked with and given fair chance.

i just got out of bed and still stretching…mum had to take me out for pics with JuJu…she went to check for him in  the yard but  he was not there…his  human was returning from the walk…what good timing!!!!!!!!

us pups  have to keep up with what goes on in our neighborhood! We street watch every moment we can when we are outside!
